'Particle visualisation of flow into a 1/20 scale model of a modern jet engine'
This set up is used to investigate the behaviour of air-flow into a scale model of the nacelle and fan of a modern turbofan jet engine. The flow into the nacelle is under a distorted flow condition which is achieved by way of crosswinds and ground effect. A laser sheet is used to track the flow of smoke which is seeded upstream of the inlet. A better understanding of the behaviour of such flows is then readily available.
