Leaf structure
Natural structures are far more advanced than anything that we can currently produce. The veins in this leaf are not only the frame that supports the leaf cells, but also a highly optimised delivery network providing nutrients and water that allow photosynthesis to take place.
Furthermore, the junctions between green leaf and vein are fully cohesive without the need for adhesives or welding! All this in a structure that is self-assembling, at standard temperature and pressure, in a way that is energetically favourable. The final structure is, naturally, completely recyclable. The study of such systems - making use of 3.5 billion years of R&D - affords us the opportunity to revolutionise manufacture.
